PROTECTION & ABUSE

India is a vast country and is home to more than 1.4 billion inhabitants. As per censusindia.gov.in, 41% of the population account for less than 18 years of age. Unfortunately, approximately 18 million children live on the streets which is more than the size of half of Australia’s population. 

There are a variety of reasons why these kids are forced to live on the streets, some run away from their homes, some are the victims of abuse, exploitation, and neglect, some are orphans, some live with their families due to extreme poverty, etc. These young children are quite vulnerable are often forced into child labor, prone to child trafficking, exploitation, sexual abuse, and physical violence. These children have no access to clean water, a healthy diet, and proper sanitation facilities, hence they have no choice but to live in inhumane conditions. 

There is a wide range of laws to protect children, but unfortunately, the challenge is in implementing the laws due to inadequate human resource capacity on the ground and quality prevention and rehabilitation services. As a result of which, millions of children face various protection risks. All forms of violence, abuse and exploitation have long-lasting consequences on children’s lives and mental health.

TARANARAIN Foundation working on Initiatives like “Maa Ka Ancha”, “Bachpan Bachaoo” & “2 Joon Roti” to provide shelter, food, safe and protective environment for children living on the streets. At the same time, we aim to raise awareness amongst these children and their families of the importance of good hygiene practice.
